A Tale of Two Churches – short story parable

Are you broken over the state of Christian churches? Are you concerned about the state of your church’s heart? The state of other church’s hearts? In this modern day parable, you will meet Oakland and Orrin, two church buildings who develop a deep friendship over sharing the good and the bad they experience and observe within their church bodies while processing insights they receive from an extraordinary Mirror.  A Tale of Two Churches is a short story with a message that challenges every church to look in the Mirror, see themselves in the story, and ask:

  • Do we really understand God’s heart?
  • Are we focused on obeying God’s Word or are we distracted by other things?
  • Are we carrying out God’s mission for the church . . . or something else?

Whether you stepped inside a church for the first time today, want nothing to do with church at all, or if you’ve been in church all your life, A Tale of Two Churches reminds us of why the church exists and how critical it is that we guard its heart and mission —  before it’s too late.

A Tale of Two Churches – Reflection and Bible Study Guide

There are a number of areas of brokenness in the church, and this story couldn’t cover all of them. A Tale of Two Churches invites us to reflect on the purpose and mission of the church, the extent to which we understand God’s heart, and whether we are reflecting Jesus to the world. After reading this parable, consider using this reflection and Bible study guide to dig deeper into the themes covered. Let’s all take an inventory of our churches and ourselves, evaluating our personal and collective alignment with God’s mission for the church, His heart, and His ways.
